Steven Brownlow
Back in my first grad school (of three), I learned that following any counseling theory only helps about two-thirds of clients. But there were a few therapists who had 95%+ success rates. Whatever theory they claimed to follow (and it varied widely), they all did the same things—and no one else did. I decided to follow what they did instead of whatever the popular theory is. I’d rather my clients’ lives get better.
How would you describe your approach to care?
Compassion is what heals people. But healing is often blocked by the emotional clutter we avoid—unprocessed feelings we distract ourselves from. My work focuses on releasing those blocks, allowing the body and mind’s natural healing processes to take hold.
What should be expected in the first session?
Everyone is different, and every relationship is different, so expect to be surprised. Clients often tell me I’m the first person they’ve ever shared a certain secret with. Some say they don’t know why they break into tears around me, or that my presence feels calming. Others say I’ve helped them see life in a way they never had before.
