Dr. Philip Hammel
I am the youngest of five children and have been passionate about helping others from a young age. I love being a psychologist—I enjoy meeting new clients, building rapport and trust, and learning about their lives: what matters to them, what they are struggling with, and how we can work together to create positive progress toward their goals.
How would you describe your approach to care?
I am patient and meet people where they are. I believe in the many qualities and strengths each person brings, and I draw from these as we work together. I ask questions to help facilitate understanding and insight. My goal is for clients to feel cared for, understood, and, at times, thoughtfully challenged and educated so that we can create harmony between their values and their actions.
What should be expected in the first session?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other better and see if we’re a good fit to work together. I will ask some questions to learn more about you, your background, and what brings you to therapy. You’ll also have space to share what feels most important to you, including your goals, challenges, and hopes for therapy. Together, we’ll begin to outline how we might work toward those goals moving forward.
