Dr. Susan Swanson
My name is Dr. Susan Swanson and I am a psychologist with over 30 years of experience supporting older adults and their families. Throughout my career, I have worked in a variety of care settings, including nursing homes, where I often connected with residents through familiar stories, music, and shared life experiences. As a senior myself, I understand the unique challenges and strengths that come with this stage of life, and I bring empathy, patience, and warmth to every therapeutic relationship.
How would you describe your approach to care?
Listening is always the starting point. I focus on being supportive, encouraging, and uplifting while helping you identify the goals you want to accomplish. My style is gentle and collaborative, and I aim to create a space where you feel comfortable sharing openly. I believe in meeting people where they are, honoring their strengths, and offering steady guidance that helps them move forward with clarity and confidence.
What should be expected in the first session?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We will talk about what feels most important to you and what you hope to address in therapy. I take time to listen closely so I can understand your needs and priorities. My focus is on being present, caring, and attentive. Together we will begin identifying the key issues and discussing what might be most helpful as we move ahead.
