Dr. Carolyn McCreary
Intro
I am a licensed psychologist with over 30 years of experience. Immediately after graduation, I completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology. I have worked with individuals across a wide range of ages and concerns, in both medical and non-medical settings. Most recently, I have increased my focus on managing anxiety and self-regulation, depression, and trauma. I am especially interested in supporting the mental health of senior citizens across a variety of living situations.
How would you describe your approach to care?
My approach to care is to start by understanding what is bringing you in, and what you are currently doing to manage things day to day. After that initial discussion, I will ask some questions to get a fuller picture, including brief family, developmental, social, and medical histories. With that as a foundation, we will work together to begin defining your main concerns and an initial plan. This is an ongoing process as we move toward resolving concerns.
What should be expected in the first session?
In the first session, my focus is to help you feel as comfortable as possible. Together, we will talk through what is bringing you to therapy, and also what is already supporting you in your life. I will ask some questions about your family, development, and medical history, and we will explore what day-to-day life is like for you, including what feels comforting versus what feels difficult. From there, we will make a plan together to address your concerns and help make life feel more rewarding.
