Dr. Karen Klein
Intro
I knew I wanted to be a psychologist at the age of 14. I had always been curious and loved figuring out problems and solving puzzles. When a friend's sister, who was majoring in psychology, explained what the field was about and what psychologists did, something clicked. I knew this was the right profession for me. I could help others while using skills that seemed to come naturally. Now, with over 40 years of experience, I still feel this is true.
How would you describe your approach to care?
I like to start by learning about your background and the family you grew up in. Understanding where you come from helps me see how your early experiences may have shaped the challenges you're facing today. I take time to step back and look at the bigger picture of who you are, not just the immediate problem that brought you to therapy. This approach helps me understand you as a whole person and guides us toward deeper, more lasting change.
What should be expected in the first session?
In the first session, you can expect to talk about what brought you to therapy as completely as possible. I'll ask about when and how the concern started, the context around it, and other important details that help me understand the full picture. Together, we'll explore the nuances of what you're experiencing so I can get a clear sense of your situation and how best to support you moving forward.
