Dr. Bonnie Floyd
Intro
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a specialization in health psychology. My focus is assisting those with chronic medical conditions to develop the best possible quality of life. My career has spanned working in pain management and conducting neuropsychological evaluations for geriatric residents. I have twenty-five years of experience providing psychotherapy for concerns that include anxiety, depression, grief, loss, adjustment issues, and life transitions. For the past six years, I have exclusively provided teletherapy sessions. I choose to focus on a client's strengths and assets, as opposed to his/her vulnerabilities.
How would you describe your approach to care?
My approach to care is warm, supportive, and individualized. I strongly believe in building upon a client's pre-existing strengths in order to foster positive future change and growth. My therapeutic orientation is cognitive-behavioral: I work with clients to help them learn how their thought patterns influence their emotional states. I supplement therapy sessions with homework assignments, to reinforce concepts presented and to accelerate improvement. Assignments are reviewed during sessions for clarification.
What should be expected in the first session?
In our first session, you and I will get to know each other better. You will be asked what specifically brought you to therapy, as well as several questions about your background. You won't be pressured to provide information that you don't feel comfortable discussing. I strive to create a warm, comfortable, relaxed environment for this initial conversation. I'll discuss what your goals for therapy might be, as well as the process moving forward. Finally, I'll answer any questions you might be having.
