Dr. Dannie Harris
Intro
Hello, I'm Dr. Dannie Harris. I am a licensed clinical psychologist. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our adult daughters, and our two German Shepherds. I am passionate about working with older adults and veterans, helping them navigate life's challenges with compassion and understanding. My goal is to support clients in processing difficult emotions, challenging unhelpful beliefs and worries, and developing the tools needed to create a more balanced and fulfilling life. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful change. I strive to create a welcoming, supportive environment where clients feel accepted, respected, and comfortable sharing their experiences.
How would you describe your approach to care?
My approach to care is grounded in empathy, warmth, and curiosity. I believe that every person has a unique story, and I strive to create a supportive, collaborative environment where clients feel safe to explore their experiences and work toward meaningful change. My work is primarily informed by cognitive and behavioral approaches. Together, we examine how deeply held beliefs influence our emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients recognize unhelpful patterns, develop greater psychological flexibility, and move toward actions that align with their values. For clients with a history of trauma, I also provide Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and other evidence-based trauma-processing interventions when appropriate.
What should be expected in the first session?
The first therapy session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a strong therapeutic relationship. My primary goal is to create a welcoming, comfortable environment where you feel heard, respected, and free to share at a pace that feels right for you. During our first session, we'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your current concerns, and any personal history that will help me better understand your experiences. This is also an opportunity for you to get to know me, ask questions about my approach, and determine whether I am the right fit for your needs. I understand that opening up can feel vulnerable, and therapy is a process that unfolds over time; my hope is that you leave our first session feeling heard, supported, and hopeful about the work we will do together.
