Dr. Jill Carty
Intro
As a licensed, board-certified clinical health psychologist, I work with older adults to promote well-being and lifecycle balance. After earning my PsyD from Rutgers University, I completed an internship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and a two-year fellowship in Clinical Health Psychology at Michigan State University, where I taught residents and provided behavioral health care alongside medical teams for individuals with health-related concerns. During my 30-year federal career, I served in clinical, program, and leadership positions with the Department of Defense and the Peace Corps.
How would you describe your approach to care?
I understand, prevent, and treat behavioral and mental health conditions through a broad, holistic approach. Finding balance in mental health often starts with addressing life-stage adjustment challenges related to family, work or retirement, and social connection. Your strengths, developed over a lifetime, can be rediscovered, perhaps with a new mindset or a change in focus. Finding and maintaining a new lifestyle equilibrium is a challenge, especially taking the first step. The reward is discovering that the smallest changes can make the biggest difference.
What should be expected in the first session?
After some necessary and important information about your rights and confidentiality, my focus is on you - to ensure you feel heard. My commitment is to listen to you, understand what brought you to take this first important step and create a safe space for our work together.
