Mishelle Lockerby
Intro
I specialize in working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), adjustment challenges, life transitions, parenting concerns, and interpersonal conflict. Most of my experience has been working with individuals diagnosed with major depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. I also support individuals struggling with self-harm and suicidal ideation. I have provided both individual and group counseling to clients of all ages and backgrounds.
How would you describe your approach to care?
As your clinician, I am committed to personalizing the counseling experience based on your needs. The counseling process should be collaborative, so please communicate with me regularly about what you feel is helping you most or least in our sessions. My goal is to create a safe and non-judgmental environment of mutual trust.
What should be expected in the first session?
I take an interactive, solution-focused, and authentic approach to therapy. I tailor each session to your unique needs, drawing primarily from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, and solution-focused therapy. When working with trauma, I use a trauma-informed approach to create a safe and supportive space for healing. Depending on your goals, I may also incorporate expressive art therapy, play therapy, narrative therapy, or relaxation and meditation techniques. I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is to partner with you, helping you navigate challenges, build new skills, and work toward meaningful, lasting change. Together, we will build a strong therapeutic relationship that supports your growth and healing.
