Dr. Katie Sharp
Intro
Hi, my name is Dr. Katie Sharp, and I am a clinical psychologist. I have worked with Veterans through the VA using a variety of evidence-supported treatments, as well as in outpatient mental health clinics. Although I’ve worked with a wide range of presenting problems, my specialty is in the area of anxiety. In the therapy room, I bring both my clinical knowledge and lived experience as I sit with others in pain.
Outside of my work as a licensed psychologist, I’ve always had a compassionate heart for people and animals alike. I enjoy all things animals, especially competing in a variety of dog sports, and was featured on ESPN for the national agility event finals with my first agility dog, Louie.
How would you describe your approach to care?
I use a compassionate, evidence based approach grounded primarily in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Within this framework, I specialize in gold standard treatments for specific concerns, including Exposure Therapy for anxiety disorders, CBT for Insomnia (CBT I), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) for trauma, ERP for OCD, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a transdiagnostic approach that supports individuals across the full spectrum of human suffering.
What should be expected in the first session?
In our first session, I focus on building trust through a warm and collaborative approach. I will review confidentiality, explain how I work, and gather background information to better understand your current concerns. Together, we will begin identifying goals and developing an appropriate treatment plan. There will also be time for you to ask any questions as you take this brave and potentially new step forward.
