April Adler
My name is April Adler, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida. I earned my Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of South Florida, a program focused on self-discovery, mindfulness, and learning to concentrate on what we can change rather than what we cannot.
I bring over 30 years of counseling experience and have worked with a wide range of specialties, including self-esteem and self-worth issues, life changes and transitions, inner-child work, depression and feelings of hopelessness, anxiety, addictions and substance abuse, spiritual growth, 12-step recovery, daily coaching, grief counseling, eating disorders, and job search skills.
My background includes teaching daily living and learning skills to individuals with developmental disabilities, providing illness and grief counseling through Hospice, and working in eating disorder and substance abuse treatment centers where I conducted individual, group, and family therapy. I also facilitated daily meditation and guided imagery exercises, inner-child work, spirituality groups, first-step groups, and educational recovery lectures.
How would you describe your approach to care?
The approaches I lean toward include Gestalt, Mindfulness, DBT, CBT, and Humanistic methods. How we think directly affects how we feel and behave, and together we’ll work on identifying patterns that no longer serve you so you can view life through a new lens. I believe counseling should be an empowering experience. Many of us struggle with self-esteem, self-worth, or even faith in ourselves. Through counseling, we can restore hope, build confidence, and transform the quality of our lives and our thinking. I strive to create a safe, compassionate space where you feel heard, respected, and never judged.
What should be expected in the first session?
Asking for help is a courageous step, and it will be my privilege to support you. In our first session, we’ll take time to get to know each other, talk about what brought you to counseling, and begin setting goals together. My priority is to help you feel comfortable, validated, and supported as we start this journey toward healing and growth.
