Dr. Alan Tuft
Intro
I am a Clinical Psychologist with 48 years of experience working in a variety of settings and supporting people through a wide range of life challenges. I am open and approachable by nature, which helps create a comfortable rapport that flows naturally. While many of our lives share similar threads, each person’s experiences are woven together in a unique way. Sometimes those threads become tangled, creating challenges that can be difficult to work through alone. Together, we work to understand and untangle them.
How would you describe your approach to care?
Working with Seniors has taken on new meaning as I now am one. I understand how important it is to recognize and navigate the many different aspects of aging, and I believe the whole person needs to be heard and understood. You will see me as someone who will listen and care about you. You will be comfortable and relaxed. I am someone who will work with you at your pace to help you find ways to be content. I embrace your strengths and your life. I have been trained in a wide variety of techniques and skills, and work to introduce them as they benefit you.
What should be expected in the first session?
During our first session we will meet each other and share some basic information. You will be invited to share the concerns that brought you to this appointment, and what you are hoping to find in this process. I will share my approach to people in the therapy setting, and we will discuss your comfort level. There may be some residual intake work and forms, and they will be dealt with in such a way as to not detract from the focus on you and your concerns. You will be encouraged to ask questions. While I am good at what I do, I never assume that I am the right therapist for everyone. If we don't connect, I feel a responsibility to help you get matched with someone who is a better fit for you. My most frequent compliment is, "I was comfortable with you from the moment we met, and I knew I could discuss anything with you and you would understand." That is what I look forward to with you.
