Dr. Karen Moore
Intro
I am a licensed clinical social worker in Ohio and Kentucky with more than 25 years of experience. I have master and doctorate degrees in social work. My career has included working with adults of all ages. The focus areas of my practice are trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, life transitions, relationships, substance use and self-esteem building. I work from a holistic, strength-based, compassionate, and empathetic approach. I am passionate about helping individuals meet their goals and improve their overall wellness and quality of life.
How would you describe your approach to care?
My approach is one of working collaboratively with individuals to achieve well-being through emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual balance. This can be accomplished through developing insight and engaging in therapeutic relationships. My approach to therapy draws from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, and relational therapy. I use experiential therapy techniques when applicable, such as the healing power of the natural world and animal-assisted therapy. Psychoeducation can also be part of therapy. The client is the expert for themselves. Through building a trusting relationship where you feel safe to share your thoughts and emotions, together we can navigate life's transitions and build resilience.
What should be expected in the first session?
I strive to have open, relaxed and informal communication with clients. Building rapport from the beginning in a mutually respectful manner is the foundation for our work together resulting in a collaborative, and safe experience for the client. The first session will be about getting to know you and what brings you into therapy. We will begin discussing treatment goals and your expectations for our work together. You are the expert on yourself. My goal is for you to always feel heard and respected as you navigate your growth journey.
