Richard Sumner
Intro
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 25 years of extensive experience in a variety of counseling settings. I enjoy working as a therapist to connect with people and help them make positive changes in their lives. This is a challenging and rewarding career that requires empathy, active listening, and a non-judgmental attitude. I am in my 70s and have actual experience in the adventures of aging. I consider myself spiritual but not religious. I enjoy current events, sports of all sorts, and spending time with my wife and our cockapoo, Petey.
How would you describe your approach to care?
My approach to care is collaborative and client-centered. My goal is to build a strong therapeutic relationship where you feel supported and safe to openly explore your thoughts and emotions. It is my hope that through meaningful conversations, we will navigate life's challenges and changes together, helping you gain clarity, confidence, and resilience. My goal is to meet you where you are and help you reach your full potential.
What should be expected in the first session?
In our first session, we'll take time to get to know each other and discuss what brought you to therapy. This is a relaxed, supportive conversation, and you can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable sharing. My priority is ensuring that you feel heard, respected, and at ease as we start this journey together at your pace. Together, we'll talk about how therapy works, what to expect moving forward, and focus on clearly expressing what it is you would like to gain from treatment so we can begin identifying goals that are meaningful to you.
